A Window Opens

A brief grading window, that is – I just finished marking the last of the tutorials (and recording marks from the oral presentations) in my super-huge class of 80. My TA, bless her heart, is tackling a bunch of the other discussion portfolio material.

Tomorrow, at 9, the same class writes their final exam and the entire pile should be ready to claim at noon.

Then the marking begins anew!

Congrats on the finished and good luck with the upcoming. And the light at the end of yonder tunnel breaks, right? You’re so close to the end…!

I know! We’re fortunate in that our term winds up a fair bit earlier than most. As long as I don’t fixate on what’s due immediately following the marking, I can be cheery, even.

  2. Phew, Janice! I am NOT envious of your student numbers, but I am insanely jealous of your short Canadian semesters. This is only week 14 out of 15 weeks of class, so our finals aren’t for another 2 weeks. Bleah!

If it helps, I’m conversely envious of the longer term U.S. universities have, at least when it comes to squeezing in time to work on writing projects. Our twelve weeks in the classroom is perilously short when it comes to conceiving and completing a major research essay!

On the other hand, the multi-week exam period makes for a much more leisurely marking experience than you’ll have in your, what?, one week of finals? So, yes, I feel spoiled compared to all of you who’re still deep in term time!
