Cause Kittens Don’t Keep

There’s a new addition to the household: Sisu, the six-month-old Siberian. Her name is Finnish: a word that means determination in the face of adversity. Consider her the ultimate stress-reducer for the professor in grading jail: Sisu is shameless about crawling into my lap whether I have a laptop or a pile of papers. It slows me down a bit but I don’t mind.

That’s quite possibly the most gorgeous cat I’ve ever seen! Lucky you!

Thanks! I love the Siberians – they are gorgeous big animals (although Sisu still has a lot of growing to do).

  2. So lovely! Glad to hear she’s a cuddler.

It’s astonishingly gratifying to have a kitten claim your lap. I’ve had cats since I was a wee tot but never had a cuddler before!

  3. Gorgeous. I recently saw a t-shirt with a cat on it: Accept your irrelevance. It’s quite true, except when they decide they need ear scratches or cuddles. Then we are the most important people in the place, until we’re not. Give Sisu a cuddle for me.

You made the entire family laugh at that wonderful line. I realize that my priorities are not half as important as theirs! Sisu appreciates her cuddle very much, by the way.

  4. Oh! Who’s a gorgeous girl, then? Who’s a booful fluffy girl wif tufty ears?

Whoops. Basement Cat seems to have caught the admiring vibes, though I said nothing out loud, and has hopped into my lap. Cat-cuddling appears to be contagious over the internet.

She is exceedingly fluffy: I need to get a good picture incorporating her tail which is a white-tipped gray poof of a tail. The most astonishing contrast to her pale cream body and dark tortie pointed face!

    She’s absolutely lovely!

True story: I was gearing up to discuss getting a kitten when Husband came home from his first-ever allergy test and said, “So I’m allergic to cats.” Sad face.

Mike is violently allergic to cats and dogs. Moreso to cats than dogs, actually, but he can bury his face in these cats’ fur and exhibit nary a reaction. Siberian cats are naturally low in the protein that causes allergies: Sisu was tested at the medium low (middle range for the breed) and Mike does marvellously cuddling and petting the beasts.

So try a Siberian if you can meet up with one and see how Husband does if the two of you are interested in changing your cat-free status!

  6. I’m totally not a cat person — but that one is really striking! Congratulations on the newest member of your family.
